A Ride to Sikkim and Bhutan 2200KM - Part 2

Today is the first day we are actually doing some riding, our goal is to reach Bhagalpur in Bihar we are suppose to take the NH34 till Farakka and then take the NH80 to reach Bhagalpur.

But finally somewhere between Nimtita and Dhulian we came to know we do not need to go to Bhagalpur so below is the route taken for the day a total of 410KM on Google maps.

The whole day there was nothing spectacular just roads also the light was too bright to click any worthwhile pics, the route was pretty much chaotic and totally jammed. The places we encountered on the way were Krishnanagar, Plassey, Farakka, Malda and finally we made Raiganj the destination for the night.

The village of Plassey is the place where the Battle of Plassey was fought with the british rulers. Having a chat with the villagers we came to know that there was nothing to visit there as such so we moved on. Farakka was heavily guarded there was a beautiful bridge at Farakka but photography was not allowed there. All the while we were encountering heavy traffic at regular intervals, the road was potholed too and cycle rickshaws, tractors were aggravating the situation.

At the end of the gruelling ride we took shelter in Raiganj the hotel was decent though now it looks cluttered due to our entry :p. We venured out for food but it being a small village there werent too many options and they too were closing down. This is the start of the 'closing down' phrase we are to regularly hear the rest of this journey. Still we managed to lay hands on some chinese stuff to my surprise but it tasted crap. We stuff ourselves as we had no other option and threw away the rest when we no longer could more. We were dead tired and paining at the right places so making no more of the day called it a day after some TV watching and mobile and camera charging sessions. PS: Raman ann Vishal had a tiff whether to visit west sikkim or not :p which we skipped in the end due to lack of time.

To be Continued.....
