Leh Ladhakh Bike Ride Part 1

Here is a small travelogue of my journey to Ladhakh.
The Participants:

Ashwin Narvekar-Honda Unicorn (myself)

Vishal Karve-Hero Honda Passion(from where we got the Ladhakh keeda)

Raman Mishra-Pulsar 150 (Last minute partner from xbhp, because of whom the ride happened)

We had gone by train from Mumbai to Ambala and from there had driven our bikes to Ladakh region, on the return me and Vishal ended our journey at Leh after coming back from Khardungla Pass for Office reasons while Raman along with a group of friends continued his journey ahead. The journey took a total of 18 days for the 2 of us starting from 2nd June 2010 to the 20th June 2010. I believe its the best way you can spend your life.

I am posting here all the videos that i have managed to capture in my 5 megapixel Nokia 6220c cam after Jammu all captures will be in my humble 2 megapixel 5233 nokia cam as the previous is dead due to an incident at Jammu. With a little bit of description and events as an when i remember.

The three packed bikes on Bombay Central:

Me and Vishal with a friend seeing us off after office:

Let The Journey Begin

In the Train the three amigos :)))
1. Ashwin Narvekar (With the cloth on my ears)
2. Vishal Karve (Sitting besides me)
3. Raman Mishra (On the opp seat)

Our Train was supposed to reach at 1.00 AM in the night the next day. It surely met its mark, our bikes had gone the previous day itself and were waiting at Ambala.

Our bikes at Ambala Station:

We reached Ambala Cantonment at the specified hour. Now the search began for our bikes. While i waited besides our luggage Raman and Vishal head to find our bikes, after half and hour or so they return locating the bikes. While they are at it i am watching curiously at a being whose lost his count among the more sensible of us as we like to say it. He seems to rearrange his earthly possessions a bag torn one, a packet of haldiram bhujjia given to him by some passerby, a bottle of water, some metal strips etc etc. He packs, it opens it up again repacks it continues for sometime muttering something under his breath. Me standing just besides him trying to protect all our luggage, wondering when he's gonna leave, a tad curious, a tad nervous about his antics. As he finishes his ritual he finally gets up with his baggage and breaks into a dance running wildly all the while my curious eyes following him.

Finally the duo return and we head together too the counter where our bikes are kept. Time to asses the damages:
My Rear Number plate is missing and a indicator is broken.
Raman's pulsar accelerator has been shoved inside so its stuck.
Vishal some scratches on the tank and an indicator is broken.

Now how am i supposed to ride my bike in Kashmir without a number plate ??
I am angry and try to blame the railway guy. He wont meet my eyesight. Eventually we have no option but to look outside, but its 2 in the night which mechanic is gonna keep up for us. Originally our plan is wait till morning before venturing on our tour, but on arrival our plan changes to starting off earlier before it dawns, A move we later regret.
Before starting though we get ourselves stuffed with parathas at a local hotel i also manage a cardboard number plate for my unicorn tied with ropes :). Wow a cardboard number plate in an already burning Kashmir that's a really good start.
We pull our bikes out in the open, get them filled with petrol and are on the road by 3 AM.
My headlight ain't falling on the road also my tail light ain't working a new realization though it wont affect soon as we are gonna ride in the day. So off we go...
